Psalm 8

Scripture:

1 O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, whichyou have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?

Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Devotion:

We began this week by looking up at the sky through David's eyes. We asked his question, "What is man that you are mindful of him?", and discovered that God's answer is far more generous than we might have expected. You are made in the image of God. You are crowned with glory and honor. And yet, as Matthew 21 shows us, the One who truly deserves that crown stepped down from heaven to wear it on our behalf, a crown of thorns before a crown of glory.

That is the arc of the whole week: from creation's dignity, through humanity's fall, to Jesus' redemption. Psalm 8 is not just a poem. It is a proclamation that God has not abandoned His image-bearers. He came for them.

Your response to that truth is what matters most. Maybe this week has stirred gratitude you need to express. Maybe it has surfaced a sin you need to confess. Maybe it has given you eyes to see someone in your life differently. Whatever God has said, write it down in your journal below, and bring it with you on Sunday. Worship is not a performance; it is a response. Come ready to offer yours.

HEAR about it:

Respond:

Write your response to God. What has He spoken to you this week through Psalm 8? What will you do about it? A prayer, a commitment, a confession? Make it honest and make it yours.

Prayer and Reflection:

Take a few minutes to sit quietly and reflect on the passage you read today. Let the Holy Spirit bring to mind what stood out to you and why. Then spend some time in prayer. Pray for the people around you, for your outlook on this day, and for the needs you are carrying in your own life.

Lord, You are the LORD, our Lord. How majestic is Your name in all the earth. This week You have spoken to me through Your Word, and I do not want to walk away unchanged. Take what You have stirred in me and make it real in my life. In the name of Jesus, who is worthy of all praise, Amen
