Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
    I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

Talk about it:

God’s rod, mentioned in this psalm, refers to how God corrects and disciplines us. How can that be comforting? (God only corrects and disciplines us to keep us away from evil and sin. God’s correction can be painful at times, but it helps us live in the safety and blessing of obedience to God.)
