James 1:2-4

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

This week’s theme is JOY

James encourages his readers to count it as joy when they go through hard trials. Why? These trials have a purpose. They test our faith to develop perseverance, which ultimately leads to spiritual maturity. The path to growth usually holds moments of frustration and hardship along the way.

Reflection and Discussion:

• The first Christmas was messy, imperfect, and hard. Joseph and Mary faced seemingly impossible challenges along the path to the birth of Jesus. Yet, amid hardship came great joy when Jesus was born. This Christmas may be packed with challenges and hardship. You may face trials of many kinds. Ask God to help you count it as “pureJOY” by focusing on the fact that He is working in you through each and every trial.
